Micro inverter vs string inverter: when something fails

Panels get dirty, cables get damaged and inverters can fail. Tap a panel or an inverter to cause a fault, and compare what happens on the same roof with MX2250 micro inverters and with a single string inverter.

      Try a scenario

touch_appTap a panel to change it: working (650 W), dirty (455 W, −30%), broken cable (0 W). Tap an inverter to make it fail or fix it.

      Why it matters

      1. 1 No single point of failure With a string inverter, one broken cable or a failed inverter can stop the whole system. With micro inverters, a fault only affects the panels it touches.
      2. 2 Problems are easy to find The TSUN Smart app shows every panel's output, so you can see exactly which panel or connection needs attention.
      3. 3 Keep saving while it's fixed The rest of the system keeps producing power while a technician sorts out the one faulty part.

Want a system that keeps working?

We'll design an MX2250 micro inverter system for your roof, with panel-level monitoring in the TSUN Smart app.

This simulation is simplified for illustration: eight 650 W panels in full sun, ignoring inverter power limits and wiring losses. A dirty panel produces 30% less. A broken cable or connector stops that panel, and in a series string it breaks the circuit for the whole string. The string inverter's response to a dirty panel is modelled simply: every panel in the series string drops to the dirty panel's level (real panels' bypass diodes can soften this a little).
